senile butter crackers?
...just thinking about what sbc should stand for. Have I mentioned that I hate sbc? I've been hounding them for over a year to get a remote terminal out here so I can get dsl.
I actually ordered dsl and got it installed this time last year, but there was just one problem: it was completely unusable. It turned out my loop length was not 11k feet, as sbc had reported. No, it is closer to 22k feet. Anything over 18k feet pretty much rules out ADSL.
For the past year I've called sbc regularly and pestered them, and checked their website almost daily to monitor for any changes in my dsl availability. In that time I've discovered that there is a remote terminal near me, but it is already filled to capacity.
So my quest is to convince sbc to install a new remote terminal. Ha ha ha. It's possible that I have a better chance at winning the lottery (even though I don't play it!) It seemed at one point that they were going to consider installing an RT (remote terminal) here, it seems unlikely they are going to act. I'm probably going to be stuck searching for alternatives to Thoroughly Witless Company and Super Broken Crap, indefinately. I'm afraid that I'll probably see FTTP (fiber to the premisis) or WiMax here before I ever get a dsl capable line; unfortunately both of those are still a few years off at best.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Sad but true fact: the fastest data service we currently subscribe to is Netflix. They can move up to 17GB of data to our house in about 1 day. The latency is unusually high compared to most ISPs, but the throughput is incredible.
