I guess he kept his word
He didn't retire from the Supreme Court, just as he said he wouldn't in the next year. It is however unfortunate that Chief Justice William Rehnquist has passed away.
He had been fighting cancer, and it's sad that he died. It's almost just as depressing to think that shrub will get the opportunity to nominate yet another controversial supreme court justice.
