The verdict

Blockbuster is history, I've cancelled our account.

We've opted to stay with Netflix, because they've bested Blockbuster overall, but I have to say the "honeymoon" didn't last long. Our Netflix movie that arrived just in time last Friday turned out to be badly scratched forcing us to stop the movie without finishing it. Then on Saturday, Blockbuster surprised us with early arrival of our Monday movie. So it was a Blockbuster weekend after all, since we did not get a replacement copy of the Netflix movie until today. However, Netflix is still more efficient in general and I think we will be happy with them.

geeks shift their own gears

Very interesting correlation between geek types and preference for stick shifts.

http://slashdot.org/pollBooth.pl?qid=1306&aid=-1

Someone proposed that this is counter-intuitive because one would think that the geeks would be interested in having a computer control the car's transmission. But I disagree, because I suspect that Linux users (type that likes having the ability to control/change/tweak things themselves) would likely favor manual transmissions more than Windows users (type that just wants to sit down and go without the need or option to control certain things); and I'm pretty sure that Linux users outnumber windows people on /. ;-)

BB vs NF pt2

This is the 1 week review... it's been over a week but I needed to wait to see how long it would take Blockbuster to receive the only movie we've watched from them so far, so I could consider that in my review.

It's no surprise given my intial impression, but I'm 95% sure that we will be going with Netflix. Aside from the nicer interface; in the crucial transit time category, NF kicks BB's butt. The First time we ordered a BB movie, it took 3 days to get to us. The first NF film took 2 days to arrive. The second NF film took 1 day to arrive. The first NF film returned was sent over a weekend and therefore took 2 days to be received. However, the latest return, through the week, was received the very next day. Today we had returned movies received at both NF and BB, and today both companies sent the next movie in our queue. NF is due to arrive tomorrow, just in time for weekend viewing. The BB movie wont arrive until Monday. We will have watched 3 NF films before BB can even get movie #2 delivered to us.

people are weird

This is the packaging used by the seller to mail me an item I won on ebay recently.

Gee... I wonder if this is Priority Mail....

The post office must give those stickers away in rolls of 10,000 or something.
