New cpu running at < 1/2 speed
and I'm happy about it! I discovered it the other day, after reading about it on the Gentoo Forums. I just had to recompile my kernel with "ondemand" cpu frequency scaling support (that took all of 3 min
). Now when I boot up my computer is running at 2.2 GHz, but as it becomes idle, the cpu frequency drops. First to 2GHz... then 1.8 ... then finally to 1GHz. The whole processes of getting down to 1GHz requires about 1 minute of constant idle time. Any activity and the frequency instantly shoots back up to full speed! ![]()
My new cpu already ran very cool, but now it's even better, plus it's using/wasting less power. I love this cpu.
I assume Glass-Paned-Openings XtremelyPreposterous can do the same thing? Can anyone confirm?
