bs galactica
I'm at this moment watching the 2nd half of the last episode of the first season of this show.
My overall opinion of this show is coming to a head. I will reserve judgement for the end of the episode but right now the words BULL and SHIT are on my mind.
I will say that what started out as a reasonably interesting series, gradually degraded into a rather tiresome sequence of theologically-heavy musings and secret agent dramas; laced with peeks at one of the writers' sexual fantasies--perhaps. What follow could be called spoilers, I suppose.
-- episode ends --
So the ending was... absurdly lame. They just opened door after door to new episodes for next season, while neglecting to tie up but one or two of the loose ends they used to string us along through season one. I tire of shows whose intrigue rests firmly on a multitude of unresolved cliffhangers. If the story was that good, they would have something more than just lack of information to keep people tuned in. Ehh... no wonder I don't like TV.
I also think the series lacks creativity. Consider some of the big crises faced during the season: ammo shortage.. oh no! water shortage... oh no! fuel shortage... oh no! I can't wait for next seasons food shortages, medical supply shortages and ... I don't know; entertainment shortages?
Don't get me started on the implied comparison of a prison raid to the storming of the Bastille in one episode... that was ridiculous. But, oh sure; they're both prisons and it sounded good.
I don't think I really liked a single character in the show. The hedonistic doctor was frustratingly annoying. Same with the punk pilot chic. The blond cylon chic really got old. I think Miss Cleo would have been better in that part. The old leathery admiral was ok.. but he's dead now so oh well. The drunken XO was pretty unoriginal. The preppy, innovative admiral's son was... annoying.
So, while I did make it through the first season, I wouldn't say it "held my interest". It was more about me wanting to finish of the series-- in the same way I almost always watch a bad movie to the end once I've started it; just because. So I think I can say with some certainty that I won't be found trudging through BSG season 2. No; I'm done.
